History

Joseph H Fitzpatrick was born in Borris-in-Ossory and lived there in his early years until sadly his parents died and then he went to live with his aunt and uncles in Vicarstown, Co.Laois. Growing up he was very interested in Motors and Agriculture.

After leaving school he secured an apprenticeship  (which was quite difficult at the time) at Jackson's of Athy. At that time Jackson's were a leading Irish Business being David Brown tractor importers and hillman & Vauxhall main motor dealers. After a few years learning his trade he became friends with a workmate Michael O'Reilly and they decided to start up on their own. A suitable location was found at Dublin Road Monasterevin and with the help of their uncle they purchased it. The early years were difficult, as emigration was rife and money scarce. The business was concentrated on repairs and as both were mechanics the business prospered.

In 1960 Joe decided to get married to Mary (cooke, from Shean, Athy). The lads had agreed when starting up that if either got married they would dissolve the partnership as they both lived together in the house on site. Joe bought out Michael in a friendly agreement and they remained close friends until sadly Michael died a few years later. Mary got involved in the clerical side of the business as well as starting a family and Joe continued with mechanics but slowly started selling cars and tractors.

In 1961 the agency for Krone, Quickie and Amazone was taken on and in 1975 as Ireland was reaping the benefit of EEC entry the agancy for International Harvester came. In 1985 it was decided to seperate the Motor from the Agricultural business and a new company 'Monasterevin Motors' was established in seperate premises and they took on an Isuzu Dealership shortly after which is still in place today. Sadly Pat Fitzpatrick who was involved in starting that company died shortly afterwards in 1988. Today Joe and Mary are still actively involved on a daily basis. Liam Fitzpatrick is now the Manager of Monasterevin Motors which is going from strength to strength. With the recent opening of our new sister Garage in Naas Co Kildare called Crossings Motor Center and with the appointment of a Toyota Dealership late last year to Cossings we have the brand of choice for the Irish people. We have recently be appointed Toyota Autorised Repairers in Monasterevin Motors a can now look after all your Toyota parts and service needs.
